All these and many other gizmos and gadgets have been causing a major thorn in the sides of the many corporate system administrators and security consultants the world over for they may have multi-million dollar security and intrusion prevention systems installed but coming from within, a security threat can render them useless in a second. This is a true threat indeed for the ever increasing number of these cleverly designed portable flash drives and media players are creating an uncontrollable security hole that is gaping and may be enough to inject a secure system with some exploits that can render security systems unsecured.
Employees upload/download files from their media players, save documents and spreadsheets for review at home and other risky behavior is getting their gadgets hooked onto an unsecured network connection to the internet (in the local cafe or restaurant) where they are being infected by malware, that they bring back to their offices, to inject their company’s offices with the said malware. Proper security scanning of such devices may be necessary to prevent entry of malware yet with these drives and gadgets getting ever smaller and growing in terms of storage capacity the problem is getting bigger and bigger, the risks grow with them.
