In what seems to be an attempt to seed the micro-blogging site with exploits that would allow later attacks, Twitter one of the fastest growing social networking sites in the world has again been hit by malware. It’s not a bored teenager this time but a more serious threat which had people’s web-sites loaded with some nasty bits and pieces of code that seemingly has been probing for wide open doors, that would ultimately report back to their makers, gathered information and all. The security company that detected the attack saw it as a potentially dangerous sign for on one instance a criminal organization was linked to one of the exploits which could make the site ripe for attack if they fail to plug up gaping holes in their API.
Experts have long been alarmed by the proliferation of social networking sites, with employees and other workers finding ways to log onto them even at work. This exposes their corporate computers and databases at risk of getting infection but blocking them totally is quite a step too far. Proper security protocol such as site blocking and firewalls to prevent total access yet employee advocates say this is a bit too much and may have a bearing on privacy. There may be no total way to prevent access and the risks they pose and the only thing that may be done is to discourage accessing these sites totally with stiff penalties for violations.
